Leitmotiv 2010: Meister, Trickster, Bricoleure – Virtuosität als Strategie für Kunst und Überleben.2010 quiOchÖ, steirischer herbst http://www.qujochoe.org/hub/?p=1010 Jenseits von Zeigefingermoral und dem bloßen Anprangern der Trickster_innen erzeugt qujOchÖ eine demonstrative Geste, die ein Spannungsfeld zu den trickreichen Finanzspekulationen erzeugt. Nach eingehender Diskussion hat sich das Kunstkollektiv dazu entschlossen, das vom steirischen herbst zur Verfügung gestellte Produktionsbudget möglichst unspekulativ zu vermehren. Was liegt dabei näher, als dafür einen typisch österreichischen Weg einzuschlagen? Als Reminiszenz an die vermeintlich guten alten Zeiten hat qujOchÖ daher das Produktions-budget in Höhe von 16.576,03 Euro auf ein Sparbuch gelegt. In Verhandlungen mit der Steiermärkischen Sparkasse wurde dafür ein fixer Zinssatz von 4,185 % für eine Laufzeit von 100 Jahren ausgehandelt. Das damit erzielte Endkapital inkl. Zinsen beträgt exakt 1.000.000,30 Euro. Über einen Schenkungsvertrag wurde das Sparbuch an den steirischen herbst übergeben, mit der Bedingung, dass dieser nicht vor Ablauf von 100 Jahren auf das Vermögen zugreift. Um dies zusätzlich sicherzustellen, befindet sich das Sparbuch für diesen Zeitraum zur Verwahrung in den Händen eines öffentlichen Notars. Lee created the sculptures at a cafe, where his activity attracted responses from passersby. In exchange for receiving a sculpture, some of these individuals agreed to stay in touch with the artist for a year. After six months, two of the participants had transformed the art into money, and Lee photographed the purchases made with those unfolded ten-dollar bills. At the end of the year, five sculptures remained, one had been stolen, and three had been exchanged for goods." Kan, a student, bought maccasins; Jennifer, a waitress, bought ice cream and bananas; [...], John, a homeless man, kept his sculpture as a prized possession. When the project is exhibited in a gallery, Lee invites participant to take an origami dollar from the multi-compartmented shelves mounted on the walls and leave in exchange any object they consider to be of equal value. Up until now, its identity has been strongly identified as a Paper Mill town. In fact, most of Skoghall has been built by the Paper Mill, including most of the housing and the church. It is time for Skoghall to present to Sweden and to the world a new image, a contemporary image of progress and culture, beyond being a dormitory for the Paper Mill workers. An image of creativity and actuality. An image of a dynamic and progressive place where culture is created, not only consumed. A living culture is one that creates. The Skoghall Konsthall The opening exhibition The Closing Ceremony "In this niche, this gap between the habitual forms and objects themselves, a new form and a new object pushes in: the gift of the artist, the negotiations about its acceptance and its precentation, its handing over into the fundus of habitual forms and with that its dissolution, its functionalisation, its passing into the everyday. The elitist aesthetic of the present and the process with its producer has made possible, to be able to perform as guest, as bestower of this gift, expands the territory of the host for a short time in that the gift has played out many aspects of cultural production. After the action, the bestowal, it remains as a decorative remnant. It is used ritually, has surrendered to all forms of this exchange which it has initiated and apparently no longer resists being a part of the window dressing, the furnishings.
